Dental Chart, Treatment Plan, and Bill in Malaysia

How a Malaysian dental visit should move from odontogram to treatment plan to invoice lines—without a second billing spreadsheet. What to demo in Desk Clinic and Kumodent-style tools.

Desk Clinic Team

Desk Clinic product team, Kuala Lumpur — clinic OS guidance for Malaysian private GP, dental, and outpatient clinics. We describe workflows that exist in the product today.

A dental clinic in Malaysia does not fail a CMS demo on “can we book a chair”. It fails when the odontogram, the plan, and the invoice are three different truths.

This is the chairside money path. For the broader dental shortlist (chair scheduling, perio, recalls), use the dental clinic management system page and the Malaysia dental blog. For Kumodoc / Kumodent positioning, use the Kumodoc comparison—this article is not a second vendor playbook.

The path that must stay one patient

  1. Chart — FDI odontogram (permanent 11–48, primary 51–85, mixed when needed). Surfaces (M, O, D, B, L). Conditions persist across visits.
  2. Plan — Planned procedures with fees from the clinic catalogue, sequenced, visible to front desk.
  3. Encounter procedures — What was actually done today (complete plan items; do not leave the chart as the only record of work).
  4. Invoice items — Money lines created from those completed procedures. Presentation extras (section headings, charge-detail notes) must not become extra billed components or MyInvois lines.

If the dentist charts in one app and reception retypes procedure codes into billing, you do not have a dental CMS. You have a drawing tool plus a till.

Demo script (one filling, one plan)

  1. Open today’s patient from queue (booked or walk-in).
  2. Mark a condition on a tooth. Save. Re-open. It must still be there.
  3. Add a treatment-plan item with a real fee from your list.
  4. Complete the item as done this visit.
  5. Create the invoice. The line amount should match the procedure, not a generic “consultation” unless that is what you charged.
  6. Optional: add a presentation note under the line (“composite, shade A2”) without changing the total.

Desk Clinic’s dental modules (chart, perio, treatment plans, procedure billing) are available where dental capability is enabled for the organisation—not as a bolted-on second database.

FAQ

Is a GP clinic OS enough for dental?

Only if odontogram and treatment-plan billing are in the same record as queue and invoices. Free-text notes are not an odontogram.

Does Desk Clinic replace Kumodent?

It can, if chart → plan → bill in a trial matches how your dentists work. If a clinic is already deep on Kumodent and switching cost is high, stay until the live visit is clearly better. Compare on the Kumodoc page.

Do invoice section headings change what the patient owes?

No. In Desk Clinic, sections and charge-detail notes are presentation. InvoiceItem remains the money line.
